IFS (Internal Family Systems) is a form of psychotherapy developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz in the 1980s.
The therapy focuses on healing trauma and integrating the Inner Child in us that may be frozen in time and stuck in past emotional experiences, directing and influencing our present experiences, our emotional state and the way we perceive the world.
IFS is based on the idea that the mind is made up of different “parts,” each with its own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
These parts represent different roles such as the “Inner Critic”, the “Protector” or the the Inner Child with its wounds & unhealed emotions that we are trying to avoid, and can sometimes be in conflict with one another.
In IFS we are not looking at a symptom and try to just manage or stop a certain behaviour, but at the whole human being, recognising that even unhealthy or destructive behaviours are serving a purpose within the system.
The goal is to achieve a sense of internal harmony, where the parts work together and the wise adult part can lead the system and take care of the inner child.
IFS is an incredibly effective method that gets super fast results and is very helpful for those dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues.
IFS helps us to literally change our past, create a better future and become our happiest, healthiest and and most authentic Self!
